    2010年初中精英班游记集锦

Speech given by Colton(倪浩地)at the farewell ceremony

    Hi, Everyone

On behalf of all the students here in the summer program, we would like to say ‘Thank you’ to our wonderful homestay parents, who came to make us feel like a part of their families. We enjoyed getting to know you and doing things with you, such as watching movies, going swimming, having delicious foods, playing video games, going shopping, seeing many new places and laughing with you. We will miss you when we go back and remember our wonderful times with you forever.

We would also like to say ‘Thank you’ to Mr. Chen, who came with us and helped with our classes, took us on all the field trips and helped us out throughout the summer. For instance, in class when we didn’t know the words in a story, Mr. Chen explained the meaning to us; when we felt bad, Mr. Chen would always be there for us. Mr. Chen was always the first one to come to school to greet us, and the last one to see us out of the school. Without his help and hard work, we wouldn’t be able to have such a rewarding trip to Canada.

                                  Days in Canada

    初二1 詹紫妮

During this summer vacation, I participated in the summer camp to Canada organized by the school, which was very fun, and here I would like to share my school and travel experience there.

    My School Days in Canada

The first place impressed me was the Robert Bateman Secondary School, where we took most of classes. It’s a beautiful school and named after a great Canadian artist. Two teachers taught me there. One is Ms. Cooke, who is funny. And the other is Ms. Mobberley, who is very kind.

On the first Wednesday, we went on fields trips. There wasn’t enough time, but everyone had fun.

We performed the famous drama ‘Hamlet “, which is a good way to help us to learn English and we really enjoyed it.

Every week we watched movies adapted from the stories. The movies helped us to have a better understanding of the story and my English was improved fast. I believe I will carry on my interest in English and make continual progress in future.

We had only 5 weeks at school, which benefited me a lot and will be kept in my memory for good.

    My field trips in Canada

On Wednesday of the first week, we went to the waterslides. My clothes got wet, but I was happy. On Saturday, we went to the museum. It was very big and we took a lot of photos there and bought some souvenirs.

On Wednesday of the second week, we went to Fort Langley. I thought it was boring, because there was nothing to play with. But I like the bread, which was very yummy. On Saturday, we went to Victoria. We got up very early, which I didn’t like. But the trip was very funny, and we bought many things there.

On Wednesday of the third week, we went to White Rock Beach. I liked the beach, but I didn’t like the smell. On Saturday, we went to Science World. It’s smaller than the Science Center in Guangzhou, but it’s very exciting to spend time there. After lunch, we went to the shopping mall. It was big and there were a lot of things to buy, but I didn’t like shopping.

On Wednesday of the fourth week, we went bowling. It was my first time to bowl. My right hand got sore because of holding the bowl, but I won, which delighted me so much. On Saturday, we went to Vancouver Aquarium and Metro Town. We watched two 4D movies at the aquarium, which were really interesting.

A field trip to Canada, a nice and unforgettable memory

    My Trip to Canada

    初二1 麦泳珊

During my stay in Canada, I learned English at school and how to do many things in the Canadian way, e.g. how to ride a bike, how to make salad, and how to wash my hands.

Learning in Canada was very comfortable and interesting. We had a lot of activities every day, we could talk about our weekend before having class, and we took field trips.

I liked my teacher Mrs. Cooke. She was a funny, beautiful, tall, and nice woman. She was always patient with us. One thing that I did not like was the tests, but I can manage it. Expect for the test, I liked studying in Canada.

There were three daughters in my homestay family. The biggest one's name is Caitlin. She is fourteen, and she usually helps to do housework. Sydney is the second sister who is twelve and graceful. The youngest one is Rachel, and she is really cute. The host's name is Narv, and he is funny, and good at playing with the children. Jennifer is the hostess, we all call her Jenn, and she likes singing, I think. There are three dogs in our home, two girls and one boy. The boy dog's name is Dawson, and his hair is brown. His sisters’ names are Gracie and Daisy. They all have white hair. Daisy looks much smaller than Dawson and Gracie. But in fact, she is much older.

We went to many places in British Columbia for field trips every week.

We went to a few museums, and I learned something about the anthropology and history of Canada. Compared to Chinese history, Canadian history is much shorter. Canadians are friendly. For example, when I met someone on the street, even if he / she did not know me, he / she would say "Hello" to me. That was so nice.

I liked the trip to Victoria because we had free time and we walked around the streets by ourselves. The best day is when we went to the candy store with Mrs. Cooke and Mrs. Mobberley, because the candies in the store were yummy, and I bought some candies to bring back to China.

To be honest, I had an embarrassing experience. When I was in Victoria with my friends, we ate a bad lunch. We went in a restaurant, but when we saw the menu, we did not want to eat there. Just then, the waitress was carrying the cups with water on her tray for us. We thought it was not good to leave, so we ate there anyway.

Because we were there mainly to learn Canadian history and culture, our field trips were not very exciting, but I learned a lot.

    My Field Trips in Canada

    初二(1)邓韵仪

I am glad that I went to Canada this summer, though I had to be away from home for five weeks. We had classes on weekdays and went to some places with Canadian characteristics on Saturdays. Besides, we usually had an excursion every Wednesday afternoon.

We went on a trip to UBC and the Anthropology Museum on the first Saturday. I did not have much appreciation of it; perhaps I didn’t know much of it. We went to the Suspension Bridge after that and had lots of fun.

Then, on the second Saturday, we woke up early in the morning and met at the school gate at 5:00 because we had to go to the Vancouver Island, Victoria. I visited the Royal BC Museum and went shopping with Sara, Gigi, Tina and Jessica, who were in my group. There were plenty of things displayed which I seldom saw, and it enriched my experience so much.

Our field trip to Science World was pretty good. We watched a good movie called ‘Good Fever’. Then we went to a mall called ‘Metro Town’ in the afternoon and I bought many things.

It was rainy on the fourth Saturday. I hated this rain because we couldn’t walk around Stanley Park and couldn’t go to Grandville Island. We just visited the Aquarium in the park and went to the Mall again! I felt sad about this.

We also went to the big Waterslides. It was cool and I felt excited on the trip to Bowling, but I didn’t get a good score. I didn’t like the trip to Fort Langley or White Rock.

I hope the movie on Wednesday will be great.

In a word, I like most of the field trips.

    My School Days in Canada

                                    初二(1)邓韵仪

I spent five weeks in Canada at Robert Bateman Secondary School and I learned a lot. I read four stories: Anne of Green Gables, Hamlet, The Secret Garden and Pirates of the Caribbean. Those were good stories. I also watched the movies of these stories. They helped me understand the stories better and were interesting to watch.

In the first week, Mrs. Cooke taught us how to write procedures and I followed the procedures to make pancakes. They were delicious and I was proud of myself.

I learned about Action Process, Saying Process, Mental Process and Relational Process. Most of them are verbs but they are different, and I got to know the differences! We got lots of experience when we acted out of the play ‘Hamlet’.

I also wrote two little stories and I learned a lot about how to write a story in class. A story, or a narrative, must contain five components: plot, setting, atmosphere, characters and point of view.

We also went to an old candy store this week which was similar to the one in the novel. I liked the place and bought a lot of candies.

Because we would have a final test in the fifth week, we were busy with practicing grammar and recount to prepare for it in the fourth week.

    What wonderful school days!

    Field Trips in Canada

    初二(1)何靖怡

I like most of the field trips. I thought the bowling trip was the most interesting. I always got a spare or a strike, but sometimes my bowling would be in the gutter. We were divided into six groups in total and I was in a team with Jessica, Amy, Tina and Gigi. I won the second prize and that was my second time playing bowling.

I thought the trip to Aquarium was also interesting because I watched the dolphin show with my classmates, which was amazing. They were so clever and they were able to jump very high. They are so cute and have smooth skin. Besides the dolphin show, I watched many animals living in the ocean, such as jelly fishes, star fishes and the tropical fishes. I learned a lot of things about ocean animals.

White Rock was interesting, too. I climbed to the top of the white rock and enjoyed the feeling of being a giant.

Although I am not very interested in history, the trip to the museum of Anthropology in Vancouver was imprinted in my mind. From the trip, I learned the history and culture of Canada and its changes.

The time in Canada went by so fast. Everything there are still in my memory.

    My Trip to Victoria

    初二2陈家欣

During the month we stayed in our camp school, we visited many places. Visiting Victoria was the highlighted part. In Victoria, I took a lot of beautiful pictures. Victoria looked like England in some places.

When I was walking in the streets with my friends, I saw some people playing the guitar and singing songs. Some of the songs were filled with emotions. Then we went to shops and bought some presents for our families.

At noon, when I was hungry, I went to a food store to eat some cold food, where hot food was more expensive. After staying there for hours, I went back to our school and then our homestay parents came to pick me home.

In the evening, I was tired, but I felt happy.
